Tirta Empul

Tirta Empul is a Balinese Hindu temple in the village of Tampaksiring, Gianyar, in Bali province. It is known for its holy spring water, which is believed to have healing powers.

The temple was constructed in 962 and has been renovated several times. The complex includes a large bathing area with 30 water spouts where visitors can cleanse themselves. The water from the springs flows into a cleansing pool where people can perform a ritual called “MELUKAT” to cleanse themselves of bodily and spiritual impurities.

Tirta Empul is believed to have been created by the god Indra. Legend has it that the temple was created after the god Indra struck the ground with his stuff and created a spring to cure his troops of a deadly disease.

Tirta Empul is a popular tourist destination and tempts many visitors from many places in the world who come to witness the beauty of the temple and experience its spiritual significance.

How to Access Tirta Empul Temple
If you stay in the south part of Bali, like Kuta, Legian, or Seminyak area. To reach this beautiful temple is an about 1-hour drive. You can rent a motorbike or book a tour package with a tour company to visit this Tirta Empul Temple. This temple is part of the Gianyar regency in Tampaksiring, Bali. If you stay in Ubud, this temple is only about 15 – 20 minutes drive from Ubud Central.

Entrance Fee
If you are a local tourist, the entrance fee is IDR 30.000 per person, and the price for international tourists and domestic tourists is slightly different. Kindly note to enter Tirta Empul, you need a Balinese costume to respect the temple. However,  if you don’t bring your own Balinese costume, the temple provides a costume that you can use and is available at the ticket counter.

However, if you buy the tour package when visiting Tirta Empul, usually, the entrance ticket already includes in your tour package.

 Other tourist destinations near Tirta Empul
Popular tourist destinations like Ubud, Goa Gajah, famous coffee plantations, and even Tegalalang Rice Terrace are not far to access from Tirtha Empul. If you plan to visit and explore Gianyar regency in Bali, you can set up an Itinerary together and see all these destinations on the same day. Ubud, in the example, is about 40 minute’s drive from Tirtha Empul, So it will be good if you secure one day and enjoy the sites.
